Iceland's Ministry of Fisheries
Objective
Increase awareness among elite audiences in the United States about Iceland's success in managing its fisheries and ocean resources in a sustainable manner.
Course of Action
A multi-year outreach program was planned and executed, focusing on three principal audiences:
federal government decision-makers
newspaper reporters and editors in major cities
marine science researchers in leading scientific institutions.
Results
Key members of Congress, executive branch officials, reporters, editors, and many scientists are now familiar with Iceland's fisheries program and the country's efforts toward sustainable management of the marine ecosystem. Editorial boards in Boston, Providence, and Portland (Maine) have praised Iceland's success.
